Healthy Smoothie Recipes Heart Healthy

Perfect to start your day or as a mid-day snack- this smoothie is literally one of my favs! I probably make it at least 3-4 times a week. It’s quick and easy, especially if you are using frozen fruit.

Not only does it taste fresh and delicious it’s a great way to get your fill of veggies and fruit.

For one smoothie you need:

-1-2 handfuls of fresh spinach

-1 fresh kiwi

-1/2 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen)

-optional 1/2 cup mango chunks (fresh or frozen)

-8 oz. coconut water

-1/2 teaspoon turmeric

-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Throw it all in a blender and let it whirl until everything is combined then pour and drink.

Why turmeric and cinnamon? Well for starters they add some additional dimension to the flavor of the smoothie. The cinnamon adds a sweet and woodsy flavor while the tumeric with it’s beautiful exotic color offers a warm  peppery flavor. Though reports are mixed, there is indication that cinnamon offers anti-oxidant effects and turmeric is widely known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Both spices have been used in food preparation and medicine for thousands of years.

If you aren’t familiar with the benefits of spices you may be hesitant but trust us, turmeric and cinnamon are good for you and taste good too. Doooo it!!!
